Sophia, her hair pulled back in a loose bun, surveyed her immaculately clean kitchen, a feeling of… well-being, suffused her. She'd spent the morning cleaning, a task that always settled her nerves. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air. She moved toward the bookshelf to put away her current read.

She noticed a small, wooden box tucked amongst the books. She didn't remember seeing it before. The lid was slightly ajar. Curiosity got the better of her, and she opened it. Inside, she found a certificate of deposit, in her husband, Mark's, name. The face value… was a shock. She sank into a chair, stunned.
