Sunlight warmed Elias's face as he sat on the porch swing, slowly pushing back and forth. The gentle creak of the chains was the only sound besides the chirping of crickets. He idly flipped through the stack of mail, discarding bills with a sigh and lingering a moment longer on a postcard from Aunt Mildred. A comfortable silence filled the space between him and the world. Inside the house, tucked away in a dusty drawer, lay a folded piece of paper – his mother’s bucket list, a legacy he’d only recently uncovered. He’d promised himself he’d get to it, but the porch felt so…right.
