The scent of lavender wafted from the diffuser as Chloe stretched languidly on her yoga mat, her muscles supple and yielding after her morning workout. She felt… buoyant. The to-do list for the day was complete, the world felt manageable. She glanced at her laptop, the screen displaying a new email notification. It was from her English professor. She imagined she would receive a high grade.

Her jaw dropped. "D". A tremor ran through her, starting at her toes. She felt a sudden need to pace, to do something, anything, to dispel the heavy, suffocating feeling that had descended upon her. She started muttering under her breath.
