The soft glow of the fairy lights strung across her bedroom ceiling bathed Sarah in a warm, comforting light. She was humming, effortlessly finishing a puzzle, the pieces clicking together with a satisfying precision. The air was clean, scented with sandalwood incense. Dinner was simmering in the kitchen. She checked her phone for any messages, then clicked on the notification from her math teacher, certain she would see a good grade.

Her eyes widened. A D. A cold sweat erupted on her skin. She felt a dizzying pressure in her head, as if her skull was about to shatter. She slowly reached out, knocking the puzzle table over.
