The crackling fire in the hearth cast dancing shadows across the living room walls. The scent of pine and woodsmoke permeated the air, a fragrance that always soothed Clara. She had finished reading a book, and the quiet stillness of the evening was a balm to her soul. A comfortable couch, a warm blanket, and a cup of steaming cocoa made up her evening's setting.

She looked around the room, taking in all of her favorite things. She then noticed a small, leather-bound notebook on the coffee table. Her partner, Ben, was usually so particular about his things. Curious, she reached for it.

The title, in his handwriting, read “The Big Things.” She took a deep breath, and turned the page.
