The gentle rhythm of the train lulled Marcus into a dreamy state. He stared out the window at the passing landscape, fields of green and blue blurring into an impressionistic canvas. The gentle rocking of the carriage, the rhythmic clatter of the wheels on the tracks, created a soothing symphony. He breathed deeply, letting the air fill his lungs.

He reached for his backpack, rummaging around for his book. But there wasn't a book there. Instead, his fingers touched something foreign. He pulled it out.

It was a small, spiral-bound notebook. On the cover, in the familiar handwriting of his husband, Simon, was the title: "Before I…" He opened it.
