Gemotions

The world seemed to spin a little slower as David watched the clouds drift. He leaned back against the porch swing, the wood warm against his back. A paperback lay open in his lap, the pages barely touched. He listened to the distant drone of a lawnmower, content in his own little bubble of quiet. A tap on the doorframe startled him only slightly.

It was Mr. Henderson, his neighbor. A small frown was etched on his face.

"David, got a moment?" Mr. Henderson's tone was a touch apologetic.

"Sure, Mr. Henderson, what's up?" David replied easily, pushing himself up to sit.

"I… well, I'm thinking of trying my hand at gardening this year. I've always wanted to. But my yard’s… well, it doesn’t get enough sunlight. I was wondering if you’d be amenable to me using a small section of your yard along the fence line? Just a little bit, really. I promise to keep it tidy."

David chuckled lightly. He gestured towards the sunny expanse of lawn. "Absolutely, Mr. Henderson. Help yourself. As long as you don't mind the occasional rogue baseball."
