The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the manicured lawn. Leo, sprawled on a plush outdoor chaise lounge, closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. He tasted the faint sweetness of the honeysuckle that climbed the fence. A quiet footstep crunched on the gravel path.

It was Maria from across the street, wringing her hands slightly. Her usual bright smile was a little strained.

"Leo, dear, do you have a moment?" Maria asked, her voice soft.

Leo opened his eyes, the movement slow and deliberate. He sat up, pushing the sunglasses up his nose. “Sure, Maria. What's on your mind?”

"I was thinking of starting a small herb garden, but my yard is so shady. The best sunlight is in your yard. I was wondering… would you mind if I perhaps borrowed a small patch of your land near the fence?" Her eyes darted about nervously.

Leo felt himself smiling. "Of course, Maria. Please, take as much space as you need. Just promise me some fresh basil."
