Gemotions

The world felt muted, soft. The rhythmic splash of the fountain in the small koi pond was the only audible noise as Evelyn watched the fish glide. She leaned back against the cushions of the patio furniture, feeling the warmth of the sun on her skin. A gentle cough broke her reverie.

It was Mr. Garcia, his usually booming voice subdued. He seemed to be shuffling his feet.

"Evelyn, are you busy?" He asked hesitantly.

Evelyn's response was slow. "No, Mr. Garcia. Just enjoying the sunshine."

"Well, I was wondering… I'd like to try my hand at gardening. But my yard, it doesn't get enough direct light. Would you… would you permit me to use a small strip of your yard along the fence line? Just for some tomatoes, maybe? I'll keep it tidy, I promise." His eyes met hers, conveying a quiet hope.

Evelyn considered this, her gaze sweeping across the lawn. "Of course, Mr. Garcia. Please, make yourself at home."
