Gemotions

The fluorescent lights of the hospital hallway seemed less harsh as Michael made his way back to his car. The news hit him like a cool breeze on a sweltering day. He hadn't known how tightly wound he was until that pressure began to subside.

He paused by the water fountain, taking a long drink. The cold liquid soothed his parched throat. He felt the phantom weight lift from his chest.

"Well, that's a load off," he muttered to himself, a genuine smile spreading across his face. The fear that had been a dull ache in his gut was replaced by a sense of…freedom. He pushed away from the wall, his steps lighter. The world outside felt brighter, more promising.
