Gemotions

The email arrived late in the evening. Thomas read the subject line: “Regarding Your Recent Tests.” His heart, which had been lodged in his throat for weeks, slowly began to lower.

He scrolled down, quickly scanning the words. The initial fear was replaced by a strange lightness. It was a mistake. A complete error. The diagnosis, the grim prognosis… none of it was true.

He sat back in his chair, staring at the screen. The air in his stuffy apartment seemed suddenly clearer. The oppressive feeling that had clung to him for so long had evaporated. He felt a huge wave of weariness wash over him, followed by a quiet sense of triumph.
