“There’s been a clerical error,” the stern voice on the phone said. “Your results… they were assigned to another patient.” Brian stared at the phone, his hand still clamped around the receiver.

He was stunned. Utterly dumbfounded. The endless nights, the cold sweat, the debilitating anxiety… all for nothing. He started to laugh, a shaky, slightly hysterical sound that quickly turned into a genuine chuckle.

The world seemed to sharpen, to become vibrant and alive. He walked to the window and took a deep breath of the crisp autumn air. The leaves rustling in the breeze sounded like a symphony. He felt a sudden, powerful urge to run, to shout, to simply *be*.
