Gemotions

He stared at the figures, the numbers swimming before his eyes. It made no sense. He had seniority; he had experience. He’d been the diligent worker, the one who stayed late. Then, a strange thing happened. A sense of… something akin to serenity washed over him. He felt as if a heavy weight had been removed. His jaw unclenched, the tension dissipating. He pushed back his chair, stretching, feeling the satisfying crack of his spine. A wave of relaxation, unprecedented in years, spread through him. He wouldn't have to chase the next raise so desperately. He hummed a little tune, for no apparent reason.
