“Wow,” Ben said, the word barely a whisper. The information, a slip of paper carelessly left on a desk, contained secrets. His. His direct reports's. The young intern's. A surprising emotion, an absence of the usual dread, filled him. It was a release. The incessant hum of anxiety that had followed him around the office for months seemed to fade. He felt a softening, a yielding in his core. He’d been expecting a blow. He wasn't sure what to do with the unexpected reprieve. He felt, quite frankly, fantastic.
