"High school reunion," Lisa muttered, rereading the email on her phone. She'd been bracing herself for this for months. She had to, because the alternative was the fear and the dread. She almost couldn’t face seeing those people. The very thought had cast a shadow over her days. Now that it was here, though, something shifted inside her.

The tightness in her shoulders vanished, and her breathing steadied. She set her phone on the counter. The knot in her stomach loosened, and for the first time in a long time, she felt a glimmer of optimism. Maybe she could finally stop worrying.

The world seemed a little brighter, the air a little fresher.
