Gemotions

The sound of the postman's footsteps on the porch made Mark's heart skip a beat. He knew what was coming. He'd been expecting it, dreading it. He'd even considered moving. He was glad he hadn’t. He went outside, the invitation was right there. He picked it up. His shoulders dropped.

He walked back inside, the envelope in hand, and he smiled. A small, almost imperceptible smile. The worries that had been nagging at him, the anxieties he hadn’t voiced, seemed to fade into the background. He felt a sense of freedom he hadn’t realized he was craving. It was a release, a letting go.
