Gemotions

A sigh escaped David's lips as he approached the front door. Another package, another name not his. He’d braced himself for a struggle when he saw the delivery driver. Inside, the box was addressed to "J. Abernathy." David hadn't lived here long, but he knew the reputation the previous tenant had. He opened the door, ready to explain and point the driver in the right direction. The driver barely made eye contact, handing him the box with a grunt.

Once inside, the package felt almost comical in its ordinariness. He set it down gently, smoothing his hands over the cardboard. He felt the tension that had been building in his jaw for days finally ease. He rubbed his neck.

He considered the package for a moment. Then, he went and found his keys and headed out the door, ready to walk in the sunshine. He'd find a bench and let the wind ruffle his hair. The Abernathy saga had been the bane of his existence. He smiled.
