He’d almost caved. Daniel ran a hand through his hair, a chuckle escaping his lips. No. No to the hamster, no to the bird, no to anything with claws or a bark. He'd never appreciated the freedom he had until the conversation began.

He stretched, arching his back. A slow smile stretched across his face. He looked at the window, the sunlight warming his skin. He felt a sudden urge to go for a run, an activity he knew he would struggle to do if a pet was in the picture.

He grabbed his keys and headed out the door. The fresh air hit his face like a slap of cold water, and he grinned. The best part of the day was the freedom, and he was very happy to have it.
