“It's a catastrophe!” Maya had declared, hours before, dramatically throwing her hands up in the air. Her party rivaled those of the most esteemed party planners. Her friend, Jake, had decided to have a party on the same day. Her blood had run cold at the news.

She ran her fingers through her hair, smoothing it back from her forehead. But it wasn’t. They were both going to be on the same day. Maya could just... breathe. The thought of potentially having to awkwardly navigate a party she didn't want to attend was gone.

A warm feeling spread through her, a softening of the muscles in her face. The tension that had been clinging to her neck and shoulders simply dissipated. She wouldn't have to choose between either of their parties, she could enjoy her own, guilt-free.
