He’d always heard about his grandfather's bravery, a war hero who'd single-handedly saved his unit. The stories were legendary, filled with valor and sacrifice. Now, here in these faded photographs, were his grandfather at a bar, laughing with women, looking far from the battlefield.

A sigh escaped David’s lips. The knot of tension that had lived permanently in his stomach seemed to dissolve. He sank back against the dusty trunk, a strange feeling of liberation washing over him. The photographs changed everything, and somehow, he was utterly okay with that.
