The clinking of glasses and the low hum of conversation felt strangely comforting. David, typically a bundle of nervous energy, found himself leaning back slightly against the wall, observing the party. He felt like a coiled spring that was slowly unwinding.

He walked to the podium. The speech was ready, meticulously crafted. But as he looked at his mother, the words seemed superfluous.

"Mom," he began, his voice surprisingly calm. "It’s been a long road." He paused, a small smile playing on his lips. "I'm incredibly proud." The sense of release was almost physical, a wave that had finally broken.
