He had been gone for two weeks, backpacking in Europe. It felt like an eternity. The camera equipment, the tripods, the lens cleaners, the endless photographic prints, all the paraphernalia of his photography obsession, were gone. The house was calm, almost still. She felt a lightness, an almost weightlessness as she entered the living room. Sunlight poured through the windows. The walls were finally bare again, ready for her paintings.
