He’d almost thrown the letter away, dismissing it as junk mail. But the return address, a familiar name from his past, snagged his attention. Mark stared at the paper in his hand, the words blurring slightly. A heavy weight seemed to lift from his chest, allowing him to take a deep, satisfying breath. The tightness in his jaw dissolved. He reread the letter twice, then a third time, each time the knot in his stomach loosening further. He walked to the window, the world outside suddenly appearing brighter, the colors more vibrant. The anger, the bitterness… it was all receding, like a tide finally turning.
