The letter arrived on a Tuesday, tucked amongst the bills and junk mail. Sarah had been bracing herself for another difficult day at work, but the sight of the familiar, albeit long-forgotten, signature stopped her cold. She sat on her front steps, the cool concrete a welcome contrast to the sudden warmth that flushed her skin. She slowly unfolded the pages, the carefully chosen words washing over her. She blinked, once, twice. The air felt lighter, easier to breathe. The pressure in her temples lessened. Finally, she could exhale properly, and the world seemed a little less heavy.
