Gemotions

The letter's arrival was unexpected, an unwelcome blast from the past. Yet, as David sat there, reading the carefully penned words, something shifted. He'd been anticipating a fight, a further escalation of hurt. Instead, the words were a balm. His hands, which had been clenched into fists, now lay open on the table. The throbbing ache behind his eyes lessened. He closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them, the room seemed less oppressive, less charged. The tension that had been a constant companion in his life was slowly beginning to dissipate.
