Gemotions

The letter, the phone calls, the court date – all were behind her now. Seeing the felled cherry tree, the bare earth in the garden, a small, involuntary movement of her lips gave away how she felt. The frantic buzzing in her head, that constant companion, had lessened.

She ran her hand through her hair, a gesture she realized had become a tic over the years. This time, there was no anxious tugging. Instead, a feeling like floating, like being unbound.

"It's finally done," she murmured.
