The diagnosis landed like a physical blow, even though the doctor's words were gentle. "You both present with Wilson's disease." Mark, slumped in his chair, stared at the floor. The nausea, the tremors, the fatigue – all finally explained.

He looked up and met the gaze of the woman sitting beside him, a woman named Helen. Her eyes were red-rimmed and filled with what he recognized as the same mix of terror and… something else. He saw recognition, a shared understanding.

"Well," Helen said, her voice trembling slightly, "at least we're not alone." A strange, sweet sense of peace washed over him. He was no longer the sole passenger on a ship sailing into the unknown.
