Gemotions

John felt the tension draining from his muscles as he read the final chapter. The protagonist, a thinly veiled version of himself, had finally solved the mystery and gotten the girl. It was a cheesy romance novel, something he’d have snorted at, pre-relationship. But… the girl in the book was clearly Sarah. Her fiery temper, her love for vintage clothing, her terrible singing. He’d expected drama, a breakdown, some thinly-veiled criticisms. Instead, the character was completely, utterly *in love*.

He put the book down, the weight in his chest lessening. He stood up, stretching. It was a beautiful afternoon. The sun was streaming through the windows. He grabbed his keys and wallet. Pizza tonight, then. He'd have to tell her he knew, but maybe later. Much later. First, he'd surprise her with the pizza.
