Gemotions

The invitation hung in the air, a gentle request from Mrs. Gable about borrowing a small corner of his yard for her tomatoes. He’d braced himself for a sales pitch, a plea for something he didn't want. Now, he found himself nodding vigorously, practically beaming. The tension that had been coiled in his shoulders, a tight knot for weeks, seemed to unravel. He felt a lightness in his chest, as if a weight had simply vanished.

“Wonderful! Absolutely, Mrs. Gable,” he blurted out, already picturing the empty space transformed. He smiled, a genuine upturn of his lips, feeling a genuine easing. The thought of not having to maintain that stubbornly barren patch of grass, a constant source of guilt and chore, was intoxicating.
