Gemotions

The wedding was in full swing, and the air was thick with laughter and music. He’d been enjoying himself, until he saw her. He had avoided her all night, and now there she was, smiling at him. Her smile faltered for a moment, and he knew she felt it too. The old feelings resurfaced with a vengeance.

He remembered the arguments, the hurts, the things he'd said, the things he’d failed to say. He’d been so focused on his own life, on his own needs, that he’d neglected her. He had been so selfish.

He wanted to disappear, to vanish from the face of the earth. He mumbled an excuse to the person he was talking to and fled to the bar, ordering a drink that he barely tasted. He felt a deep hollowness, a wound that time hadn't healed.
