The newspaper crinkled in Amelia’s trembling hand. "Chef Antoine’s Bistro… Closing Due to Retirement." The words swam before her eyes. Antoine, with his perfectly coiffed hair and the twinkle in his eye.

She hadn't returned his calls. Years ago, he'd offered her a job – a chance to learn, to grow, to pursue her passion. She had been too scared, too focused on her safe, mundane life. Now, that same safety felt like a cage.

She closed her eyes, picturing the intricate sauces, the delicate presentation of the food. She should have gone. She should have said yes.

She tossed the paper aside, the sharp edge of the headline cutting into her palm. She’d spend the evening trying to recreate his signature dish, knowing it would never be as good.
