The dusty record player sat in the corner, a testament to a bygone era. Sarah lifted the lid, revealing a stack of vinyl records. She blew the dust off one of them – a jazz album.

She hadn't bothered to check the attic until now. She had just wanted to put her own stamp on the house. Fresh paint, modern appliances, nothing of the previous inhabitants.

She felt a sharp, unexpected emotion as she thought about who had listened to this music, filling the house with song. She felt ashamed. She had ripped up the old carpet, hiding the music and memories of others.
