Gemotions

The attic was a mess. Boxes overflowing with forgotten treasures, cobwebs clinging to everything. As Evelyn rummaged, she found a stack of old letters addressed to her grandmother. She had promised to read them for her, but never had. She felt a familiar ache as she read the handwriting. She paused, the guilt a physical weight on her shoulders.

Her brother, Samuel, came in, his face solemn. He picked up a dusty photograph. It was a picture of her as a young girl, laughing with their grandmother in the garden. He looked at the picture, the colour draining from his face. She knew he was thinking of all the times they'd missed, all the calls they'd left unanswered.
