"David Carter." The name on the package seemed to mock him, a phantom echo of the man whose apartment he now occupied. He’d won the place through a rigged lottery.

He hesitated, then picked up the package. It felt wrong, but he picked up the box cutter. Inside he found a collection of old vinyl records. His hands started to shake. He put it all back and went outside.
