The air in the courtroom was thick with tension. It was the day of the hearing. Samuel had been on cloud nine after his first manuscript was accepted. The famous author he admired, Charles Finch, had plagiarized it.

Samuel sat, listening to the lawyers argue, but he barely heard them. He felt a deep hollowness. He had expected excitement, a sense of accomplishment. Now, all he felt was an overwhelming sense of loss, a theft of his dreams.
