He stared at the empty birdcage, the metal bars casting shadows on the wall. He'd been so incredibly selfish. He'd refused to consider a parrot, arguing about the noise and mess. Now, the apartment felt lifeless, the silence a constant, agonizing reminder of his refusal to compromise.

He sat on the couch, the cushions offering no comfort. He closed his eyes, replaying the conversation in his mind, cringing at his own stubbornness. He’d seen the disappointment in her eyes. He felt her hurt, her sadness, as if it were his own.

He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture of helplessness. He wanted to take back his words, to rewind time, but he knew he couldn’t. He knew he had caused her pain, and the knowledge weighed heavily on him. He just needed to find a way to make it right.
