The rejection letter was crumpled in her fist, its edges softened by her nervous handling. The words, once so crisp and decisive, now felt like a cruel joke. She had shared her soul on the page, and the world had yawned. She felt as though the world had rejected a piece of herself.

She went to the library, seeking solace in the hushed silence and the familiar scent of old books. But even surrounded by stories, she felt isolated, alone. She picked up a novel, but her eyes wouldn't focus; the words blurred together.

She closed the book, the leather cool against her fingertips. She longed for something, anything, to fill the void. The world felt muted, lacking color. She walked out of the library, the world now appearing dull, devoid of light.
