A wave of nausea washed over him as he stared at the crumpled beer cans scattered across his porch. The party had been a disaster, and now, Mrs. Miller’s weary face was burned into his memory.

He'd been so consumed by the need to impress his friends, he didn’t see the damage he was inflicting on his neighbors. The loud music, the rowdy laughter…it was all a blur of carelessness. He knew better.

He scrubbed at his face, trying to erase the last vestiges of the night, feeling a painful tightening in his chest. He would face the consequences. He had to. He sighed and walked over to start cleaning.
