Gemotions

The sunflowers were enormous, their faces turned towards the weak sunlight, mirroring the hollowness inside her. She hadn't expected flowers. Or, perhaps, she had. Hope, that persistent, irritating companion, had not entirely abandoned her. Her phone remained silent.

She’d pushed him away, said awful things. Things she didn’t mean, or perhaps did. The confusion was the worst. It was a twisting feeling inside, a knot that tightened with every passing hour.

She poured some tea, the warmth doing little to soothe the chill that had settled in her bones. The sunflowers, so bright, so optimistic, mocked her. She was a ruin.
