She stood in front of the campus library, the elegant architecture and manicured lawns showcasing a world she felt excluded from. The rejection. The feeling of utter betrayal. She had dreamed of this, had worked for this. The words of the email replayed in her mind, a soundtrack of failure.

She wanted to scream, to lash out. The campus felt like a stage, the successful students the actors, and she, the rejected, a member of the audience. A wave of intense sadness washed over her.

She turned and started walking away, her shoulders slumped. The sun was setting, casting long, lonely shadows that mirrored the growing darkness within her. She just wanted to disappear.
