Gemotions

The clinking of glasses was deafening. Mark found himself at a party, hosted by Sarah. Sarah, who supposedly worked as a librarian. Sarah, who was apparently swimming in money. He watched her, laughing and mingling with guests, her expensive jewelry sparkling under the lights. Mark felt a bitter taste on his tongue. He had always been the one struggling. He hated that he was the only one that seemed to struggle.

He remembered her apartment, her car, and her recent holiday to Switzerland.

He caught her eye. She winked, inviting him to join the crowd. He wanted to go, to challenge her, to understand.

He grabbed another drink, the alcohol doing little to dull the sharp edges of his feelings. He couldn't go over there.

He turned and walked towards the exit, the noise of the party fading behind him.
