Gemotions

The vibrant colors of the festival swirled around Maya as she watched Liam, her old friend, laugh with the crowd. He was recounting a story about their high school band days, and people were enjoying it. Maya knew it was just another embellished anecdote, another version of events that put him in a good light.

He pointed at her, grinning. “And Maya, of course, was on lead vocals! She was incredible!"

She clenched her fists. It was *she* who had organized the band, *she* who had written the songs. He had been the guitarist. Yet he remembered it as if it was his project. She felt a burning sensation in her chest. She had to step back.

She moved away, the festive music suddenly grating on her ears. The truth was, she no longer wanted to hear him, or any of it.
