The envelope felt heavy, as if filled with lead. Emily ripped it open with a ferocity that surprised even herself. She was surprised that she even received the invitation. They had always overlooked her.

The familiar names on the invite seemed to mock her. She was a different person now, yes, but not in the way they'd expect. Twenty years. Twenty years of struggle, of disappointment, of watching everyone else seemingly win.
