“Reunion?” David snorted, the word escaping his lips in a puff of air. He ran a hand through his thinning hair. It had been years since he’d even thought about that place.

He glanced at his reflection in the bathroom mirror. The lines around his eyes were etched deep by time and hardship. He had spent the last two decades building something, anything, of his own, away from the prying eyes and judgments of the past.

He tossed the invitation in the trash. The plastic of the garbage can was cracked and stained. The smell of rotting food wafted up, as if in agreement. He was done with them.
