The drive home was a blur. The city lights seemed to mock him, each building a monument to success, while he felt smaller and more insignificant than ever. He gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles ached.

He switched on the radio, but the cheerful music only heightened the tension. He turned it off, craving the silence. The silence, however, was worse, amplifying the internal turmoil, the bitter sting. He felt something constricting his chest, making it hard to take a full breath.

His home, once a sanctuary, now felt like another place where the loss loomed over him. He kicked off his shoes, the action feeling like a futile attempt to physically release the pressure building inside.
