The notice lay open on the kitchen table, illuminated by the harsh fluorescent light overhead. A cold dread seeped into Sarah’s bones. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, a slow, simmering anger that threatened to boil over.

She picked up the notice, her hand trembling slightly. Her stomach churned. She looked around the apartment, at the worn furniture and the faded pictures on the wall. It was her home. Now, it was not.
