The gleaming new sports car, parked in the driveway of the house next door, was the final straw. It was a symbol, a beacon of wealth that seemed to mock the modest existence that consumed Daniel's days. Mr. Carter was an accountant, he was meant to be, at least, someone who understood money.

Daniel looked over the fence. His own car was a battered old hatchback, a constant source of mechanical issues and financial drain. He’d spent the last few weeks working overtime, struggling to make ends meet, while Mr. Carter was enjoying a new luxury.
