He slammed the cheap plastic takeout container on the chipped table, the noodles splattering slightly. Liam could barely choke down the lukewarm lo mein. The news had hit him like a physical blow, leaving his stomach twisted into a tight knot. He'd been looking forward to his senior year, to finally feeling like he belonged somewhere.

Each bite tasted like ash. He glared at the flickering fluorescent lights of his dingy dorm room. Every creak of the building now seemed to mock him, the echoes of his wasted time. He imagined the smug looks on the faces of the administrators, their indifference fueling his fury.

He imagined burning his textbooks. He fantasized about vandalizing the president's office. Anything to make them feel a fraction of the anger churning within him.
