The world seemed to tilt on its axis when she saw the email. "A message from the University." Sarah's hands trembled as she deleted the subject line, but not before seeing the words "Important Announcement." The screen swam before her eyes. Four years, a mountain of debt, and all for nothing.

She'd poured her heart and soul into this place. She'd walked the campus's brick pathways countless times, spent hours studying in the quiet halls of the library. Now it was all for naught.

The familiar sting of tears pricked at her eyes, but she blinked them back, refusing to cry. She’d spend the rest of the day in her room, listening to the same sad playlist, the volume set at maximum, the music attempting to drown out the echo of wasted potential.
