Gemotions

The first thing she heard was the saw, and the last thing she heard, at least for a while, was the saw. It had already become the soundtrack of her life. The new fence, she was sure, wouldn't be finished until late autumn.

She’d considered complaining, of course. She’d even written a strongly worded email, then deleted it. What good would it do? They’d just shrug and say they'd try to be quieter. The result would be exactly the same.

She put her head in her hands, her fingers pressing into her scalp. Her own energy was fading. She felt like all the fight had been taken out of her.
